CW Fall Schedule: Genre Blankets the Week, ‘iZombie’ Holds Until Midseason

Two of the CW's highest-rated series, Arrow and The Vampire Diaries, remain in their current time slots next season -- though unlike years past, neither will be used to launch new shows.

The network released its 2014-15 schedule on Thursday morning, and the two nights that won't see any movement at all are Wednesday and Thursday. Despite spinoff The Flash's introduction to the lineup, Arrow remains with recent midseason entry The 100, and The Vampire Diaries and Reign are still a duo the following night.

“This is a different CW than we were just a few years ago," said CW president Mark Pedowitz. "Our audience is broader and more inclusive than it has ever been, and we are growing on-air and on all digital platforms."

One of the more significant moves is The Originals. The TVD spinoff, which enjoyed success on Tuesdays during its freshman run, will now open Mondays. Its the first time a genre show has opened Mondays on the CW in the fall. The network's most dependable oeuvre recently got a trial run on the first night of the week with ill-fated Star-Crossed and Tomorrow People, but never at the top of the season.

The Originals, the CW's strongest freshman of the most recent season, will lead into telenovela adaptation Jane the Virgin.

As for The Flash, the comic book series gets a go in The Originals' old Tuesday slot. It airs before ever-dependable Supernatural, returning for a whopping tenth season.

Friday is also host to some tinkering. An original Whose Line Is It Anyway? at 8 p.m. will be coupled with a repeat at 8:30 p.m. and then America's Next Top Model at 9 p.m. A night of exclusive reality is relatively unfamiliar territory for the net.

The biggest news may be what's been left off of the schedule. Buzzy new series iZombie, from Veronica Mars maestro Rob Thomas, won't make an entry until 2015 -- neither will The Messengers. And returning series Hart of Dixie and Beauty and the Beast are also being held for midseason.
