Watch David Letterman Announce His ‘Late Show’ Retirement (Video)

David Letterman has announced he'll be signing off from CBS' Late Show for good. During the taping for Thursday's episode, Letterman gave a sincere thanks to the network, his staff and viewers – adding cheekily: " What this means now, Paul (Shaffer) and I can be married."

Letterman added that a date for his final broadcast has not been set, saying it'll be "sometime in the not too distant future."

"Sometime in 2015 -- in fact -- Paul and I will be wrapping things up and taking a hike," Letterman said to applause from the audience.

Late Show airs at 11:35 p.m. on CBS.
