Caleb Johnson slayed his original audition song on “American Idol” on Wednesday.
Like Malaya Watson, Johnson performed an Aretha Franklin track, picking the 1967 hit, “Chain of Fools.”
“You deliver every week, Caleb. You are a blues warrior, you’re a soul conquer, you, Caleb, are rock and roll viking,” Keith Urban said afterward.
Jennifer Lopez told Johnson, “For me when I watch you, it’s like you’ve been waiting all your life to get up there and do this.”
“You do it, you deliver, and you kill the audience every single time,” she added.
Still, Harry Connick Jr. said while it was a “great performance,” the contestant should do “something that wasn’t so loud once.”
