‘SNL’ Recap: Anna Kendrick Auditions for Pharrell (Video)

Pharrell Williams may have been the the musical guest, but Anna Kendrick showed off her pipes plenty during this week's Saturday Night Live.

In a late sketch, Kendrick auditioned to be a backup singer for Williams, who was situated between two colleagues also sporting versions of his now-famous hat. (Kenan Thompson and Taran Killam both claimed they began wearing the hat before Williams.)

Williams performed his Oscar-nominated hit "Happy" and later got an assist from Hans Zimmer on "Marilyn Monroe."  

Earlier, Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin (Bobby Moynihan) stopped by Weekend Update to defend the slow progress he's made on finishing his epic A Song of Fire and Ice saga. The author revealed he was having some creative trouble, saying the next book takes place in Denver – and the kingdom's three kings were are named Ross, Rachel and Chandler. The man really was out of ideas.

With March Madness soon coming to an end, SNL unveiled an ad for the highlights video no one wants: NCAA Tourney: Best of the White Guys. The DVD promised to show white players doing what they do best, such as "checking into the game at the end of a blowout," and "hugging the guy who just one the game."

Kendrick put a modern twist on The Little Mermaid, playing an Ariel who only sings songs by the likes of Britney Spears and Iggy Azalea. Ursula (Aidy Bryant) began to rethink their deal of stealing her voice.
