Robin Williams is heading back to the big screen as Mrs. Doubtfire for a sequel, with director Chris Columbus and Elf scribe David Berenbaum attached to the project. But what does it take to complete the actor's transformation?
While sharing the news of the THR exclusive, Thursday's Today broadcast aired a lively 1993 interview with Robin Williams, in which the actor told Gene Shalit of the parts necessary to create the beloved character: the nose of Margaret Hamilton (who played the Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz), a Margaret Thatcher-like chin, anda wardrobe that seemed to remind Williams of Julia Child.
Mrs. Doubtfire starred Williams as a struggling actor and recently divorced father of three who, in order to be closer to his children, takes on the persona of a Scottish nanny, Euphegenia Doubtfire.
Hilarity, misunderstandings and family love ensued to the tune of $219 million domestically and $222 million internationally. Williams won a Golden Globe in the best actor in a musical/comedy category while the movie won the Globe for best comedy/musical.
