Bryan Singer is fighting back against allegations he sexually abused a teen boy in the late 1990s.
As Gossip Cop reported, Michael Egan claims he was drugged, molested, and sodomized by the X-Men director repeatedly during a two-year span, when he was 15 to 17 years old.
Egan and his lawyer held a press conference about their lawsuit on Thursday, where the former aspiring actor and model detailed some of his accusations, and claimed that when he went to the police and FBI in 1999, “it basically fell on deaf ears.”
Singer’s own attorney has now released a statement blasting both the claims and what they believe is a publicity stunt:
“The claims made today about Bryan Singer are completely fabricated. We look forward to our bringing a claim for malicious prosecution against Mr. Egan and his attorney after we prevail. It is obvious that plaintiff’s attorney is not looking to litigate the case on its merits. This matter is nothing more than the attorney seeking to get his 15 minutes of fame by sending out a press release with his ‘media consultant’ yesterday and following up with a press conference today. Attorneys who try cases don’t hold press conferences.”
The filmmaker’s lawyer also points to a 2000 lawsuit filed by Egan for sexual abuse that didn’t name Singer, saying the similarities between the two prove his client’s innocence.
That suit, in which Egan received a default judgment, was against convicted child molester Marc Collins-Rector, who Egan now says orchestrated Singer’s alleged abuse.
But as the scandal continues to grow, ABC has reportedly pulled Singer’s name from promos for the new series “Black Box,” and the filmmaker has backed out of his scheduled appearance at this weekend’s WonderCon event in Anaheim, Calif.
Egan, who said he decided to file his new suit after undergoing therapy, is seeking at least $75,000 for each of his legal claims – intentional infliction of emotional distress, battery, assault and invasion of privacy.
