GLAM SLAM
So you’ve no doubt heard all about the backlash surrounding Kim Kardashian and Kanye West landing the cover of Vogue. What do you think?
To say people are vocal on this one is an understatement. This is one polarizing couple. One headline reads “Will Kim and Kanye Kill Vogue?” The magazine is getting raked across the coals on its own social media pages… one person Tweets, “What’s next Honey Boo Boo….?”
There are hundreds of comments and I tried to find positive ones, without much luck. On the magazine’s website, one person writes “Goodbye Vogue, I will never purchase another issue,” while another says, “Just cancelled my 11 year subscription. I do not want to read about someone so disgusting in a publication that so many people previously admired. Time for Anna to step down and she can go work at TMZ which is now what I connect her publishing abilities to.”
Famed editor Anna Wintour defended putting them on the cover saying, “Part of the pleasure of editing Vogue, one that lies in a long tradition of this magazine, is being able to feature those who define the culture at any given moment, who stir things up, whose presence in the world shapes the way it looks and influences the way we see it…”
They sure do know how to stir things up!
Some people may buy the issue… just out of curiosity and you do get a glamorous glimpse beyond the reality show into the lives of these famous jet-setters. We get to see baby North West (and her mirror- walled nursery) and the family on a private plane and grandma Kris in action.
But one thing no one can argue about is the fashion — in this case, fantasy fashion. Vogue does that better than anyone else, hands down. The haute couture in the Kim and Kanye spread is breathtaking. There is amazing gown after amazing gown and my favorite is a feathered Alexander McQueen, which is out-of-this-world gorgeous. Vogue delivers the goods when it comes to showcasing the best of the best, when it comes to style.
No arguing that the photos by Annie Leibovitz are stunning, and for me, the pictures of Nori are precious. I also enjoyed learning that that Kim has a serious Ebay habit! That I can relate to.
As for the controversy, I get both sides of the argument. My take on the whole situation is if you don’t like it, don’t buy the magazine.
It’s as simple as that.
