‘American Idol’ Recap: Big Screen Shares Top 8

A shorter elimination episode of American Idol doesn't mean any less anxiety onstage. Another hopeful was sent home on Thursday night, meaning the season's save is still up for grabs.

OPINION: Not Watching 'American Idol' This Season? You're Missing Out

At the beginning of the half-hour episode, mentor Randy Jackson commented that his three favorites of Wednesday night's competition performances were Caleb Johnson, Malaya Watson and Jena Irene, but after host Ryan Seacrest revealed on the big screen the surprised reactions of those who were safe for another week, the bottom three came down to C.J. Harris (The Steel Drivers' "If It Hadn't Been For Love"), Sam Woolf (Plain White T's "Hey There Delilah") and Majesty Rose (Florence and the Machine's "Shake It Out").

Rose then sang for the season's save, opting for Pharrell Williams' "Happy," walking through the audience with a smile and jumping around onstage. After the performance, the judges noted their decision on whether to save Rose from elimination.

"Here's the thing -- this is, without the doubt, the hardest deliberation for us," said Keith Urban. "We've got to agree, and by a narrow margin, we are not gonna use our save tonight." Rose was then sent home.

Throughout the episode, Janelle Monae also stopped by for a feather-filled performance of "What Is Love?" off the Rio 2 soundtrack.
