It now has a stadium, facilities for the athletes and visitors, an Olympic arena and a media centre.

It was made possible by the efforts of at least 70,000 workers, many of whom came from outside Russia.

However, there have been allegations that some were mistreated and abused. Environmentalists have also expressed concern that the area's biologically-rich terrain has been sacrificed for the games.
