This morning, the United States men's hockey team defeated Russia 3-2 in an incredible shootout finish that went eight rounds long.

After a scoreless first period, Russia got on the board with a goal from team captain Pavel Datsyuk midway through the second period, but USA responded shortly after with a power play goal from Cam Fowler.

USA then took the lead in the third period on a power play goal from Joe Pavelski. Russia tied it up on another goal from Datsyuk, who was later stripped of a third goal that would have given Russia a late 3-2 lead, after the net became dislodged and the goal waved off on a controversial call.

After a scoreless overtime, the game went into a shootout where American goaltender Jonathan Quick came up big, proving why he deserves to be the starter for Team USA.
