TV Ratings: Seth Meyers’ ‘Late Night’ Debut Tops Fallon’s, ‘Tonight’ Opens Week 2 Strong

Seth Meyers got off to an auspicious start as Late Night's new host. The first night of his post-Tonight talk show pulled a 2.6 rating among households in metered-market overnights.

That's Late Night's best Monday in nearly 10 years, besting the 2.3-rated premiere Jimmy Fallon had in the same hour in 2009. Meyers had the benefit of a a visit from Vice President Joe Biden.

As for Fallon, his first night without a gargantuan Olympic lead-in brought a 4.5 rating among households. And while it is still far to early to glean any longterm value in a number like that, it is substantially higher than Conan O'Brien's start of his second week at Tonight. That earned just a 3.1 rating.

Again a top Monday for NBC late night, it was Tonight's best for a non-Olympic showing for the night  since Jay Leno's 2010 return to the show.
