TV Ratings: ‘Duck Dynasty’ Slips to 6.7 Million After Premiere

Duck Dynasty is still Wednesday's cable champ, but it faltered a bit in the second episode of its fifth season.

The A&E show averaged 6.65 million viewers at 10 p.m., down 21 percent from last week's opener.  It's a somewhat predictable dip from a premiere, though it strays a little far from last season's 9.4-million average.

The top 10 p.m. showing across all of television in the targeted adults 18-49 demographic, Duck Dynasty was down half of a point for a 2.9 rating. Also lower than typical for the series, it's still nothing to turn its nose up at. Aside from American Idol (4.0 adults) and Modern Family (3.4 adults), Duck Dynasty brought a bigger demo haul than any other Wednesday TV.

Duck Dynasty's fifth season comes on the heels of a December spent in the headlines. Star Phil Robertson's controversial remarks about gay people and the Jim Crow South prompted A&E to put him a brief hiatus and drove many falls to call for his reinstatement. More than 250,000 signed a petition to put him back on the show.
