Discovery
"Klondike"
Discovery kicked off its six-hour Klondike miniseries on Monday night, averaging 3.4 million viewers over the course of the first two installments.
The scripted drama, the first of its kind at the network, brought its most-watched Monday primetime to date -- and it performed especially well among men. Klondike averaged a 2.3 rating among men 25-54. Among adults 25-54, it was somewhat softer with a 1.7 rating.
Being the network's first scripted effort, there is little precedent for Klondike -- though the order and three-night delivery were clearly inspired by History's gangbuster performance by Hatfields & McCoys in 2012.
The cable network has already said that it would be a fixed event, with no possibility of a Klondike follow-up, though it is making other inroads into scripted. Discovery is already reteaming with producers Scott Free Entertainment for adaptation of mini based on Nigel Tranter's historical books The Wallace and The Bruce Trilogy.
In association with Scott Free, Klondike is a co-production between Discovery, eOne and Nomadic Pictures. The second installment debuts Tuesday night, with the conclusion scheduled for Wednesday.
