It’s not been an easy few days for the French President.

Earlier today a man dumped several tonnes of horse manure outside the Palais Bourbon, the home of France's lower legislative chamber.

He turned up in a lorry emblazoned with the words: "Out with Hollande and all politicians. Long Live the 6th Republic".

Although the deeply-unpopular François Hollande is probably more concerned about the media fallout from his alleged affair with the actress Juliet Gayet.

(The current French political system is considered to be the Fifth Republic.)
