Ellen DeGeneres’ Copy of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty Leaks on Piracy Sites

A screener of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty sent to Ellen DeGeneres has surfaced on file-sharing sites.

20th Century Fox has confirmed that the “Ellen DeGeneres” watermark appears to be authentic, and that the pirated copy would have been sent to the talk show host before the film’s star Ben Stiller appeared as a guest in December.

It is not an Oscar screener, as those copies are watermarked differently.

“Ellen DeGeneres” producers say they cannot say for sure whether the pirated version was leaked from show staff, but that an investigation is underway.

In a statement, producers said, “Our show is sent advanced screeners of movies, sitcoms, reality shows, cds, etc. before guests appear on our show. We do everything we can to protect the content and in 11 seasons nothing has ever leaked online from our show.”

The site that originally discovered the “Ellen” copy has posted a GIF of the watermark.
