According to the Washington Blade, “American Idol’s” Clay Aiken is “actively considering” a run for Congress in North Carolina’s 2nd district.
The singer/Broadway actor, who came out in 2008, is also “sounding and acting like a candidate,” according to multiple Blade sources.

The 35-year-old has reportedly spoken with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee along with a political strategist and pollsters about a possible bid for the seat.
The Congressional seat is currently being held by Republican Rep. Renee Ellmers.
Potential candidates for the May 6 primary must file their paperwork to run by February 28.
