BBC America has greenlighted another original scripted series.
From Being Human and Doctor Who's Toby Whithouse, the cabler will broadcast a six-episode miniseries The Game starring Brian Cox.
Slated for a fall debut, The Game is being described as a 1970s Cold War spy thriller set in the world of espionage. It tells the story of the invisible war fought by MI5 as it battles to protect the nation from the threats of the Cold War.
The Game, from BBC Cymru Wales, will fall under BBC America's "Dramaville" block. Tom Hughes, Paul Ritter, Shaun Dooley, Chloe Pirrie, Victoria Hamilton, Jonathan Aris and Judy Parfitt also star. Executive producers are Faith Penhale, Brian Minchin and Whithouse.
The cabler has been ramping up its original programming as of late, with the critically-hailed Orphan Black returning, as well as the upcoming The Musketeers and Intruders, casting Doctor Who alum John Simm in the lead role.
The Game pickup comes after BBC America ended 2013 with its highest-rated year ever thanks to originals including Doctor Who, Orphan Black, Broadchurch and Luther.
BBC America general manager Perry Simon noted that December marked the network's highest-rated month -- and included its highest-rated week over Christmas -- thanks to the Doctor Who Christmas special, joking that "This Jew finally believes in Santa Claus."
