The Golden Globe nominations were announced on Thursday, and here is what the stars are saying about being nominated.
Matthew McConaughey, nominated for Best Actor in a Motion Picture (Drama) for Dallas Buyers Club, said, “I’m excited and honored that the HFPA has recognized my performance in Dallas Buyers Club. Ron Woodruff was an incredible revolutionary, for HIV and the human spirit, and I was honored to tell his story.”
Jennifer Lawrence, nominated for Best Supporting Actress in Motion Picture for American Hustle, remarked, “Thank you to the HFPA. This is so exciting. I’m thrilled that the film received so many nominations and that I get to share this with the rest of the cast.”
Kerry Washington, nominated for Best Actress in a TV Series (Drama) for “Scandal,” gushed, “I’m enormously grateful to the Hollywood Foreign Press for this honor. It’s humbling to be nominated alongside such talented and hard-working women whose work inspires me.”
Leonardo DiCaprio, nominated for Best Actor in a Motion Picture (Comedy) for The Wolf of Wall Street, noted, “I’m truly honored to be nominated by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association today. Getting this movie financed and off the ground was a dream of mine for over 6 years, and is a testament to the true collaboration between Red Granite, Sikelia, Appian Way and Paramount. This film would not have been possible without the genius of Martin Scorsese, and this incredibly talented cast and crew. Making ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ was one of the highlights of my career. Thank you again to the HFPA for their support.”
Kate Winslet, nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Drama) for Labor Day, said, “I’m extremely surprised and absolutely thrilled to be included this year!! Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.”
Sofia Vergara, nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a TV Series for “Modern Family,“ cracked, “My Golden Globes are still going strong! That’s why I don’t sag. Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for this nomination and for nominating the cast of Modern Family. It is truly an honor.”
Don Cheadle, nominated for Best Actor in a TV Series (Comedy) for “House of Lies,” said, “It feels nice to have the recognition that this hopefully brings, not just to me, but to the show.”
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Comedy) for Enough Said and Best Actress in a TV Series (Comedy) for “Veep,” said, “I’m thrilled and so grateful to the Hollywood Foreign Press. One question: does this mean I need two dresses?”
Joaquin Phoenix, nominated for Best Actor in a Motion Picture (Comedy) for Her, said, “Thanks to the Hollywood Foreign Press for recognizing Her. Spike [Jonze] wrote a wonderful story and I couldn’t be more pleased for him.”
Judi Dench, nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Drama) for Philomena, remarked, “What great news! I’m delighted, and hugely honored to be in such magnificent company. And without the inspiration of Philomena herself I wouldn’t of course be receiving this recognition.”
Jared Leto, nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a a Motion Picture for Dallas Buyers Club, stated, “I’m blown away by this Golden Globe Award nomination and so thankful to the incredible filmmakers for inviting me to help bring a fascinating story to the screen. This has been an unforgettable experience and I’m so very grateful to you all.”
Hayden Panettiere, nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a TV Series for “Nashville,” said, “Juliette Barnes is such an amazing character to take on and I am truly honored to be recognized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. It’s been an incredible morning!”
Chiwetel Ejiofor, nominated for both Best Actor in a Motion Picture (Drama) for 12 Years a Slave and Best Actor in a TV Movie for “Dancing on the Edge,” noted, “It is such a huge honor to be nominated for two Golden Globes and I would like to thank the members of the HFPA for this incredible recognition. The response to 12 Years A Slave and ‘Dancing On The Edge’ from the public and media alike has been overwhelming and I am so very grateful. To have been a part of these amazing projects was a gift in itself, that the HFPA have responded in this way, truly means so much.”
Emma Thompson, nominated Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Drama) for Saving Mr. Banks, stated, “Making this film was the most satisfying and thrilling job I’ve had in years. It was a privilege to work with a team of people who couldn’t have been bettered. I’m really honored to have been nominated.”
Michael Fassbender, Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for 12 Years a Slave, said, “I’m humbled and honored to receive this nomination from the HFPA… I feel this is such an important film so thank you to the HFPA for all their support championing Solomon Northup’s story.”
Greta Gerwig, nominated for Best actress in a Motion Picture (Comedy) for Frances Ha, joked, “When the phone rang this morning, I silenced it and I thought, `Ugh, who do I owe money to?’”
Idris Elba, nominated for both Best Actor in a Motion Picture (Drama) for Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom and Best Actor in a TV Movie for “Luther,” thanked, “I’m truly humbled and honored to be acknowledged for two projects that, though very different from one another, are both extremely personal and special to me. Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press for your support, and I would also like to give a special thank you to Mr. Mandela, who will be forever missed.”
Helen Mirren, nominated for Best Actress in a TV Movie for “Phil Spector,” said, “This is a very proud moment for me. I would like to thank the HFPA for this nomination and as well as recognizing Al Pacino, Linda Kenney Baden, and David Mamet, all of whom were very instrumental in participation in this project.”
