The Voice must really be hoping to build a library of signature gestures, since judges are often standing up on spinning red chairs and pointing their index fingers at themselves from weird angles. Let’s not forget Cee Lo Green stroking his fluffy white cat or colorful cockatoo, rotating coach Usher slouching with a lifted knee, or the studio audience’s sway that is, for some reason, always offbeat.

But the latest physical action to enter The Voice realm is that of viewers at home tweeting incessantly on their computers or other devices. The Tuesday night elimination episode reenacted the Instant Save, in which viewers have a five-minute window to jump on Twitter and tweet or retweet #VoiceSave with the first name of the contestant they wanted to move forward – you know, for all the people who didn’t get to participate last week, said Carson Daly. (We have the point out the fact that most of the people who didn’t tweet during the commercial break last week also won’t be this week, since they’re still located in a time zone that doesn’t air the show live. But we digress.)
After a handful of performances – Christina Aguilera squaring off against her two powerful singers for Janet Jackson’s “Black Cat” and “Scream” with Michael Jackson; Blake Shelton joining his three men for ZZ Top’s “Sharp Dressed Man;” and the remaining contestants grouping up for covers of Fall Out Boy’s “Sugar, We’re Going Down” and Lorde’s “Royals” – the bottom three singers of the week were Shelton’s Austin Jenckes, and Green’s Kat Robichaud and Caroline Pennell.
“Caroline, what you’re doing is just pure magic, and I really love what you’re doing right now,” said Levine upon returning from the commercial break, just before the Instant Save tweeting window closed. Daly then revealed that Pennell is indeed safe, sending Jenckes and Robichaud home.

With the top eight set, Levine is in the lead with three singers, Aguilera and Shelton are tied with two each, and Green’s team is narrowed down to the barely saved, and very sweet, Caroline. Had Jenckes been saved, Green would’ve been ousted for the season as well.
