“Tuesdays are why I drink so much,” joked Blake Shelton in reference to elimination night on The Voice. But Tuesday’s episode wasn’t just another clean contestant cut. Because a double elimination on live television just isn’t dramatic enough, viewers voted to save a contestant from the bottom three through the “Instant Save” on Twitter.

Once Carson Daly revealed that the three contestants with the lowest votes were Christina Aguilera’s gritty rocker Josh Logan, as well as Cee Lo Green’s crowd-surfing performer Kat Robichaud and military veteran Jonny Gray, viewers then had a short five-minute window to jump on Twitter and tweet #VoiceSave with the first name of the contestant they wanted to rescue from elimination.
This means that for the first time in Voice history, the power of the save was given to the viewers at home (well, really just those watching the live broadcast -- sorry, West Coast fans).
Though Shelton said he scrolled through his news feed during the commercial break and saw a ton of tweets for Gray, the rocker with the voice of “activism” was sent home. Daly then revealed that the Twitter initiative saved Robichaud, sending Logan home as well.

During the episode, Green sang The B-52’s “Roam” with his team, and Adam Levine formed a four-man band with his singers for the Beatles’ “A Hard Day’s Night.” Sara Bareilles also performed her hit “Brave” with the Voice ladies, while the season’s male singers joined for Grand Funk Railroad’s “We’re an American Band.”
What did you think of tonight’s elimination? Were the right two singers sent home, or did Twitter’s #VoiceSave rescue the wrong contestant? Sound off in the comments below.
