‘SNL’ Recap: Josh Hutcherson Inspires ‘Hunger Games’ Fever (Video)

Note: We will post video from the Josh Hutcherson-hosted Saturday Night Live as soon as they are made available online.

Josh Hutcherson brought some Hunger Games-mania to this week's episode of Saturday Night Live.

During his opening monologue, Hutcherson made fun of his character's performance in he first movie's games, saying "I play Peeta, the brave young hero who immediately gets hurt and has to be carried around for the rest of the movie."

A Hunger Games-crazed Kate McKinnon – dressed as Elizabeth Banks' character Effie Trinket – insisted SNL must host its own games, going as far as to turn cast members into tributes. Hutcherson wasn't keen on the idea, and like Peeta, turned out to be weak. Cecily Strong injured him with a high five, and he insisted she carry him to the next sketch.

And what a whacky bunch of sketches they turned out to be. In one, Hutcherson brought his new girlfriend home for Thanksgiving. The weird catch? She was actually a turkey (Vanessa Bayer dressed up in costume.) Awkward.

In another, Hutcherson teamed up with Kenan Thompson and Jay Pharoah to play a subway dance troupe whose niche is working in crowded cars. But because of the confined space, the moves they performed aren't very impressive.

Hutcherson also played an employee at the worst animal hospital in the world, where the crew routinely told its customers "your pet died."

Ahead of the show, we'd hoped Hutcherson would play Marty McFly. Instead, he rocked out in an 80s sketch in which his character spoke in soundbites from The Oufield's "Your Love." I was super charming and super weird.

In its cold open, SNL took on the recent arrest of George Zimmerman, who police took into custody after he allegedly threatened his new girlfriend with a gun. Piers Morgan (Taran Killam) interviewed a Florida police chief (Bobby Moynihan), about his department's inability to keep Zimmerman in line.

"Frankly, he has way more guns than us," the chief said, adding they had put an ankle tracker on Zimmerman.

When the chief checked out the tracker, he looked worried when he saw Zimmerman was parked at a gun store.

SNL is in reruns next week. I'll return Dec. 7 with host Paul Rudd and musical guest One Direction.
