The acclaimed writer is returning to British TV after a period in the US.
Russell T Davies is coming back to UK TV with two new drama series "exploring 21st century gay life".
Cucumber is an eight-part series of hour-long episodes for Channel 4, while Banana will focus on the younger characters from the parent show, and broadcast eight 30 minute episodes on E4. Tofu, a factual web series, will provide an "anarchic online guide to sex inspired by the dramas each week." The project had originally been in development for Showtime in the US, before Davies returned to the UK.

15 years after making his name with Queer As Folk, Davies is returning to Manchester's gay community.
But the shows will not explore the hedonistic Canal Street scene of that show. Instead, Cucumber follows 46--year-old Henry and his long-suffering boyfriend Lance. After the most disastrous date in history - involving a death, a threesome, two police cars and the Glee Christmas album, Henry's old life shatters and his new one begins. Banana follows the lives of the characters that orbit Henry, from young lesbian Scotty's first love to 19-year-old Dean's mysterious family secrets. Tofu, meanwhile, extends the experience online with eight factual episodes navigating the landscape of 21st Century sex. The series' will be shot in Manchester by RED Productions in 2014.

The show launched the careers of Aidan Gillan and Charlie Hunnam.
The pair caused controversy in the first gay sex scene on primetime British television.

I once read about a scientific institute which had studied the male erection. It divided the hard on into four categories, from soft to hard. One, tofu; two, banana; three, peeled banana and four, cucumber. Right there and then I knew I had my drama. And it's a joy to be back with Channel 4 and RED, to tell these stories.
