MTV's foray into late-night has come to an end.
The Viacom-owned cable network has canceled talk show Nikki & Sara Live after two seasons, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
"We are huge fans of Nikki and Sara, they are extremely talented and funny and we look forward to working with them again," MTV programming president Susanne Daniels said in a statement to THR. "We want them to remain part of the MTV family."
The weekly unscripted series featured fast-paced jokes, celebrity interviews, sketches and more and was hosted by the duo behind the popular podcast You Had To Be There. The duo used that platform to announce that their series would not return for a third season, using the hourlong episode to reflect on their favorite moments from the show's 24 episodes.
The series, which was picked up in June 2012 under Daniels' predecessor David Janollari, completed its second 12-episode run on Oct. 29 with guests including a roster of late-night staples including Jimmy Fallon, Arsenio Hall and Chris Hardwick, among others.
The series marks the third late-night talk show to get the ax in recent weeks. FXX dropped Totally Biased With W. Kamau Bell after two seasons (including one on flagship FX) and Comedy Central opted to not move forward with its Anthony Jeselnik-fronted topical show The Jeselnik Offensive -- also after two seasons.
Meanwhile, Comedy Central locked in @Midnight, its Hardwick-hosted late-night series for another 40 episodes and Bravo re-upped Andy Cohen and his Watch What Happens Live for two more seasons. For his part, The Daily Show's John Oliver also recently landed a weekly comedy series on HBO.
