Justin Bieber is in more graffiti trouble.
The performer, who upset authorities in Brazil after tagging a wall while in Rio earlier this month, is now under fire for painting a colorful cartoon mural near a tennis court at the QT Hotel in Gold Coast, Australia.
The venue’s owners say they gave Bieber permission to do his artwork and want it to remain.
“This piece of art is now available to be viewed by fans of the artist, and we believe that it is a wonderful addition to the colourful Gold Coast arts scene,” said the hotel’s proprietors in a statement.
But the city’s mayor disagrees.
Tom Tate came to the hotel with a graffiti-cleaning kit that he intended to hand to Bieber, except the singer had already departed.
The mayor and City Council believe say that millions of dollars are spent every year erasing graffiti, and that even though The Biebs had permission, his actions set a bad example.
“Just come and clean it up and we’ll be happy with you,” Tate is quoted in a local newspaper as telling Bieber.
He continued, “Alternatively come and sing at our mayoral Christmas carols on the 7th of December for an hour and I’ll let you go.”
No word yet on whether the caroling-for-crime deal will be finalized.
