Laurence Fishburne may be reprising the role of righteous ex-con Socrates Fortlow some fifteen years after first tackling the character in HBO telepic Always Outnumbered. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that the network is developing a drama series following the character, with the actor set to produce and star.
The Right Mistake, based on Walter Mosley’s series of novels, would continue to tell the story of Fortlow -- a man seeking redemption after spending 27 years behind bars. Mosley, whose Fortlow novels include Always Outnumbered, Always Outgunned, Walkin’ the Dog and The Right Mistake, is co-writing alongside Patrick Charles.
The project hails from Fishburne’s Cinema Gypsy Prods. and Fox Television Studios. Fisburne and Mosley will serve as executive producers, alongside Helen Sugland, Tom Russo and Diane Houslin. Charles will serve as co-EP.
Cinema Gypsy signed a first-look deal with Fox Television Studios for cable projects back in 2011. The Right Mistake marks another project in which HBO is working with another studio. The network recently ordered Leftovers, from Warner Bros., to series. AndFox 21 also currently has a project in contention at HBO in Ryan Murphy's Open pilot.
Fishburne, who currently appears on NBC's Hannibal, is repped by Paradigm, Landmark Artist Management and Del, Shaw.
