LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- ‘Fifty Shades’ star Jamie DornanCaption ‘Fifty Shades’ star Jamie DornanFans of E L James’ erotic “Fifty Shades of Grey” novel have been voicing their concern over the film adaptation’s expected R rating, as it will limit the story’s signature racy scenes.

Producer Dana Brunetti says the “Fifty Shades” team is aware of what the fans want, and are contemplating making two versions of the film, with a far more explicit NC-17 cut.

“This is just my opinion and this doesn’t mean this is going to happen, but I always thought it would be really cool if we released the R version and then we had an NC-17 version that we released a few weeks later,” Dana told Collider. “So everybody could go and enjoy the R version, and then if they really wanted to see it again and get a little bit more gritty with it then have that NC-17 version out there as well.”

The producer pointed out that the two-movie idea would make monetary sense for Universal Pictures and Focus Features, as well.

“It’d be great for the studio too because they’d get a double dip on the box office,” he said.

Dana said he and E L, as well as screenwriter Kelly Marcel and director Sam Taylor-Johnson, are working hard to deliver a satisfying product to the fans.

“What we’re kind of hearing from the fans is they want it dirty, they want it as close as possible [to the book],” he said. “We want to keep it elevated but also give the fans what they want.”
