Dan Rather will host a report on the 50th anniversary of the John F. Kennedy assassination -- on Mark Cuban's AXS TV.
The special was announced days after the anchor made headlines when he stated that CBS News hadn't invited him to appear in the network's coverage.
Instead, My Days in Dallas: A Remembrance With Dan Rather, an exploration of the shooting on Nov. 22, 1963, is set to air on Nov. 18 at 8 p.m. ET on AXS TV. The special will be rebroadcast on Nov. 22.

"I was a young reporter covering a country struggling to live up to its ideals of liberty and justice for all -- there was already so much uncertainty about America’s future before President Kennedy stepped out of Air Force One onto the tarmac of Love Field," Rather said in a statement. "This special will follow, to the best of my recollection, the events as they unfolded and how that horrific day shaped this country for decades to come."
The longtime CBS News anchor's AXS TV report will include details of his own reporting and personal reflections.
Rather stated earlier in the week that he had been looking for a call from CBS. "I held off doing anything for anybody else for a while, thinking I may be asked to do something [for CBS]," he told the Associated Press. "I can't say I had any reason for that hope."
CBS News announced that its coverage will include As It Happened: John F. Kennedy 50 Years, a special report anchored by Bob Schieffer that will air Nov. 16.
