Angelina Jolie was moved to tears while accepting her honorary Oscar at the fifth annual Governors Awards on Saturday.
The Academy Award winner received a statuette for the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, and became emotional as she cited her late mother as the inspiration to give back.
“To stand here today means I did as she asked,” Jolie said. “And if she were alive, she’d be very proud.”
Partner Brad Pitt, son Maddox, and father Jon Voight were among those supporting her in the star-studded crowd of attendees.
Jolie thanked Pitt from the podium, saying, “Your support and guidance make everything possible.”
And the actress wasn’t the only one feted — or the only recipient to shed tears.
Steve Martin and Angela Lansbury were also misty-eyed upon accepting their honors.
