Watch An NHL Goalie’s Perfect Shot Baaaaarely Beat The Buzzer

Well, that was neat.

In the final seconds of Saturday night's Red Wings-Coyotes game, Phoenix goaltender Mike Smith launched a long shot that slid right into an empty net as time expired.

It was Smith's first NHL goal and as you can tell, he was definitely going for it — he works on this shot at practice sometimes — taking no time to hold onto the puck before sailing it over everyone's head.

And, boy, did it just barely beat the buzzer.

The Coyotes ended up winning 5-2, so even though the goal really didn't matter at that point, it did place Mike Smith in a unique group, as he became only the 11th goaltender in NHL history to score. And for that, we say congratulations.
