GLASGOW, Scotland -- The “Outlander” clan is growing.
Actor Grant O’Rourke has been cast as Rupert MacKenzie, the right hand man to Dougal MacKenzie (Graham McTavish).
According to a description from Starz, Rupert is “a loyal member of Clan MacKenzie and an angler who is always looking for opportunities — he just can’t stand to pass up a good raid. Rupert is Dougal’s right hand man; Dougal has power and Rupert wishes he did as well.”

Rupert will be one of the many characters the very capable World War II nurse Claire (Beauchamp) Randall meets when she mysteriously travels back in time in the show, based on Diana Gabaldon’s book series, which is being executive produced by Ronald D. Moore.
The series, from Starz and Sony Pictures Television, is currently filming in Scotland.
Last week, the network set hearts aflutter after releasing the first photo of actor Sam Heughan in his kilt as the character Jamie Fraser. (See Sam as Jamie Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser, here.)
Caitriona Balfe is playing Claire. Other members of the cast include Nell Hudson as Laoghaire MacKenzie, Graham McTavish as Dougal MacKenzie, Gary Lewis as his brother, Colum MacKenzie, Duncan Lacroix as Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser, Annette Badland as Mrs. Fitzgibbons, Lotte Verbeek as the spirited Geillis Duncan, Laura Donnelly as Jenny Fraser, and Stephen Walters as Angus Mhor.
“Outlander” is expected to premiere on Starz in 2014.
