MTV Orders Daily Afternoon Singing Competition Series

MTV is expanding its afternoon foothold.

Two months after ordering a pair of unscripted series for afternoons, the Viacom-owned network has ordered to series Copycat, a singing competition entry from The Bachelor's Mike Fleiss.

Half-hour daily afternoon entry Copycat features singers battling it out on stage in a bid to sound like their favorite recording artists. The studio audience will vote on each performance, with winners walking away with a cash prize and the title of the "Ultimate Copycat."

The Bachelor's Fleiss will executive produce alongside Brendon Carter (Gene Simmons: Family Jewels, Brooke Knows Best). The Glee Project's Matt Laesch will co-executive produce, while Lauren Dolgen, Kristina Edwards and Jennifer Russakoff will oversee the Next Entertainment and Warner Horizon effort for MTV.

Copycat will join two other daily afternoon series on the schedule: Rob Dyrdek's cooking competition series, Smackdown, as well as SallyAnn Salsano's dating vehicle, The Ex and the Why.

MTV last bulked up on afternoon programming in 2010, when the network picked up studio countdown show The Seven after saying farewell to TRL.
