LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Melissa McCarthy’s ELLE magazine cover, where she is seen covered in a coat, raised some eyebrows with many suggesting the mag was attempting to hide the curvy actress’ physique – but the star tells Access Hollywood otherwise.
The 43-year-old actress appears on the mag’s “Women in Hollywood” issue, draped in a charcoal Marina Rinaldi coat – something she told Access that she selected!
“I think they are crazy,” she said at the ELLE Celebrates 20th Annual Women In Hollywood Event on Monday, when asked about the backlash surrounding the cover.

In fact, the actress made the decision to sport the coat on the cover.
“I had a great dress on. I’m the one who grabbed the coat!” “The Heat” star explained.
Adding, “I loved my cover, I feel in love with that coat.”

Following the initial cover backlash, the mag released a statement.
“On all of our shoots, our stylists work with the stars to choose pieces they feel good in, and this is no different: Melissa loved this look, and is gorgeous on our cover,” an ELLE spokesperson said in a statement last week. “We are thrilled to honor her as one of our Women in Hollywood this year.”
