Lance Bass’ days in *NSYNC may be mostly behind him, but the singer is well aware of the current boy band resurgence in pop music.

What advice would he give to the likes of One Direction and The Wanted?

“Surround yourself with amazing people,” Bass told Gossip Cop. “They’re the ones that will keep you down to earth, they’re the ones who will hopefully tell you the truth.”

He added, “They need people around them saying no. Too many people get too many yesses and that’s when you get a lot of crazies out there.”

The singer just has one bone to pick.

“Where are our American boy bands?” wondered Bass. “[The English are] kickin’ our a**.”

“I’m excited to see the next big Backstreet [Boys], the next big *NSYNC come out, because I think it’s just around the corner,” he said.

Bass told Gossip Cop he’s also “excited” to see Miley Cyrus perform at next month’s American Music Awards, where he’ll co-host the red carpet pre-show.

Asked about the controversies surrounding her, Bass noted, “As much hate as you get, that means a lot of love you’re getting, too. That means you’re doing something right.”

“I think [Cyrus is] great. I think her music speaks for itself,” said Bass. “It’s incredible. The album [Bangerz] — woah! I have it on repeat, it’s that good.”

He added, “She’s an entertainer, obviously. She’s definitely entertaining the world and making people talk. If that’s the way she wants to sell albums, then kudos to her.”
