“Don’t expect Jay Leno to go gently out of late night,” begins a piece from Star, which claims the “Tonight Show” host is trying to prevent Jimmy Fallon from taking over the gig in 2014.

The tabloid alleges that Leno is “determined to see his former intern Ross Matthews — whose own show, ‘Hello Ross,’ just premiered on E! last month — take the ‘Tonight Show’ from Jimmy Fallon.”

A so-called “source” for the mag says Leno has been “mentoring Ross, giving him key strategies to bring in viewers.”

The purported “insider” alleges, “Jay has a huge ego and is livid that he’s being pushed out. He won’t be happy until Fallon fails.”

Please.

Leno has been nothing but supportive of Fallon taking over the “Tonight Show.”

And if even the late night veteran wanted Matthews to get the gig (which he doesn’t), NBC would never hire a virtual unknown for the job.

D’Oh.
