The Daily Show is losing showrunner Rory Albanese. The Hollywood Reporter confirms that the seven-year veteran of the Comedy Central flagship, an executive producer the last five, will depart the series on Thursday.

Albanese's replacement has yet to be decided, but the series is expected to promote from within. His departure coincides with a two-scripted development deal with Warner Bros. TV -- and one project is already in the works with CBS.
Albanese will write and executive produce the multi-camera comedy, set in a family-owned drug store run by a conservative father and liberal son that are constantly butting heads.
The deal, which sees Albanese moving from New York to Los Angeles, will not derail his current side job as a touring stand-up comedian. Albanese has nine primetime Emmy awards to his name, all for The Daily Show's many best variety series and best writing for variety series wins.
