Jenna Hamilton is about to get a dose of her own medicine.
Following the events of the return episode of MTV's Awkward, where Jenna's (Ashley Rickards) affair with Collin (Nolan Funk) is outed at a surprise party, things aren't going to get any easier for the rebelling teen.
Awkward star Nikki DeLoach tells The Hollywood Reporter that "while most of the parenting has been done by Jenna" up to this point in the series, it's time for Jenna's mother Lacey to do the heavy lifting.
"Now the tables are turned and Lacey really has to step up to the plate and be a mother for the first time," she says.
As DeLoach tells it, the intention is far more significant than the outcome, at least in this case. "[Lacey] has an inadequate skill set as a mother," she explains. "She may mess up a lot but at the end of the day, if you have the best of intentions and your heart is in the right place, I think it'll end up OK."
The rest of the season will also shine a light on a different side to Jenna. "You're going to see Jenna like you've never seen her before, that's for sure," she hints.
At the time of DeLoach's visit to the THR offices, the actress was still several months pregnant, but that didn't stop her from offering some insight into the reality-based arcs. (DeLoach gave birth to a baby boy on Oct. 22.)
"A lot of the stories have been birthed from things I've gone through with my own mother, so it's all very, very, very real," she says of the evolving storylines. "We just add the layer of humor."
