David Wilcox is bulking up his drama output.
Through his double-blind deal at Warner Bros. TV, the writer/producer sold hour-long projects at both ABC and The CW. The former, a legal thriller called Entrapment, tells the story of a star prosecutor accused of murder and the journey she takes when she turns to her former adversary, a streetwise defensive attorney, for help in her defense. The latter is titled Badlands, and is being billed as a supernatural western about a ruthless family cursed by vengeful ghosts.
Entrapment received a put pilot commitment from ABC, with Wilcox attached to write and executive produce. Prison Break's Dawn Olmstead will join him as an exec producer on the effort, which is being produced by his Idle Hands and her Grady Girl Productions in association with Warner Bros. TV. For it's part, Badlands nabbed a script deal from the CW, with Wilcox on board to write and executive produce. (It's in second position to Entrapment.)
The sales comes as broadcast development season winds down, with several of the networks lighter on drama fare this season. As The Hollywood Reporter reported in early September, the explosion of cable and digital outlets was causing a talent drain at the networks. At that time, there were believed to be more than 150 dramas -- among broadcast, cable and digital -- in production, leaving many writers and producers locked up or too busy running shows to develop new ones. Still others were more interested in chasing passion projects on cable, where their chances of getting and staying on the air were significantly higher.
Wilcox has worked primarily in broadcast. He previously served as a consulting producer on Fox's The Following and the creator/executive producer of ABC's 666 Park Avenue. Before that, he was a co-EP on Fringe and Life on Mars at Fox and ABC, respectively, as well as a co-executive producer on NBC's long-running Law & Order.
