MTV Orders Drama Pilots From Jason Blum, ‘Sex and the City’ Writer

MTV has picked up a pair of drama pilots to join its two previously announced comedies in the works.

With Awkward and Teen Wolf already having established themselves, the cable network is looking to Sex and the City and The Carrie Diaries alum Terri Minsky and Paranormal Activity's Jason Blum and Twilight's Catherine Hardwicke to expand its drama offerings.

First, Minsky will executive produce Finding Carter, a family coming-of-age drama that centers on a teenager who learns that her mother abducted her as a child. Bones' Emily Silver penned the script.

Second, Eye Candy is described as a cyber-thriller based on the best-selling novel of the same name by RL Stine (Goosebumps). Emmy Grinwis will pen the script and co-executive produce the drama. Blum will executive produce the drama via his Blumhouse Productions banner alongside Hardwicke (Thirteen), who will direct. Yvonne Bernard and Beth Elise Hawk are also on board as EPs.

For MTV, the pair of drama pilots join the previously announced Scream adaptation as well as comedies Faking It and Happy Land as the network looks to broaden its original scripted roster.

MTV programming president Susanne Daniels told The Hollywood Reporter in July that the Viacom-owned network will likely green light one new drama series for 2014 and one or two more comedies to join the fourth season of Awkward. Casting on both Finding Carter and Eye Candy will begin immediately.

Here are the formal descriptions of both dramas:

Finding Carter
Carter has the perfect life with fun-loving single mom Lori - that is until the police bust a high school party and she discovers Lori abducted her as a toddler. Now she must return to the family who thought they had lost her. As she navigates brand new parents, a twin sister, high school and boys, Carter vows to find Lori before the police capture the only mom she’s ever known and put her behind bars.  “Finding Carter” is an unconventional family drama about a girl who is quickly realizing that sometimes the people closest to you are the ones who have the most to hide.
