Michelle Monaghan to Star in Ryan Murphy’s HBO Sexuality Drama ‘Open’

Ryan Murphy's Open has rounded out its cast.

The hypersexual HBO drama pilot has cast Source Code's Michelle Monaghan as Grace, the successful and recently engaged gynecologist in what is being billed as a multicharacter exploration of the complex, ever evolving landscape of sexuality, monogamy and intimacy in relationships.

Monaghan joins the project's four other central characters: Scott Speedman (Jonathan), Wes Bentley (Evan), Anna Torv (Windsor) and Jennifer Jason Leigh (Holly). Principal photography is set to begin in early 2014. Murphy and Lauren Gussis (Dexter) penned the pilot and will executive produce for Ryan Murphy Productions and 20th Century Fox's cable arm Fox 21, which is best known for Showtime's Homeland and FX's Sons of Anarchy.

If ultimately ordered to series, Monaghan will be no stranger to HBO viewers. She stars opposite Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in the premium cable network's True Detective, an eight-episode drama slated to bow in January 2014. On the film side, she'll star in Claudia Myers' Fort Bliss (with Ron Livingston), A Many Splintered Thing (with Chris Evans) and Better Living Through Chemistry (with Sam Rockwell).

Monaghan, who was the first choice to star in NBC's buzz-worthy drama Blacklist and consistently ranks on the top of casting director wish lists, is repped by ICM Partners, Circle of Confusion and attorney Robert Offer of Sloane Offer.
