Matt Nix Medical Drama Near Pilot Order at USA Network

USA Network is staying in the Matt Nix business.

The top cable network is near a pilot order to the Burn Notice showrunner's medical drama Complications, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The drama tells the story of an emergency room doctor whose life changes after he's involved in a gang shooting when he's forced to explore how active a doctor can be in treating the cause of his patients' medical problems.

STORY: 'Burn Notice' to End After Seventh Season

Nix penned the script and will executive produce the Fox Television Studios effort, which was first put into development in May as part of the cabler's upfront development slate.

Complications comes as USA is preparing to say farewell to Nix's spy drama Burn Notice following the conclusion of its seventh season on Sept. 12.

The medical drama is expected to be among multiple pilots ordered at the network in the coming weeks. Complications will join the recently ordered untitled escort drama from former Suits showrunner Sean Jablonski as well as Horizon from The Walking Dead EP Gale Anne Hurd and Bridget Tyler.

The news comes as USA's newest drama, Graceland, marches toward its Sept. 12 freshman season finale. The Jeff Eastin (White Collar) series has been a sturdy performer for the cable network, averaging 2.3 million total viewers through its first 10 episodes as it marches toward a likely renewal as the network continues to move beyond its Blue Skies brand.
