Fox is doubling down on Howard Gordon.
The former 24 showrunner, who is back to work on the Kiefer Sutherland thriller limited series reboot for the network, has inked a put pilot commitment for his latest drama project, Unthinkable. The hour-long development effort, which also will be executive produced by Ben Queen (Drive, Cars 2), tells the story of the unlikely pairing of a by-the-book FBI agent and a washed up screenwriters who team up to stop a plot to attack the United States that the screenwriter and others concocted in a government sponsored think tank years earlier.
The project is based on the Boom! Studios comic book series of the same name, which was created and written by Mark Sable and drawn by Julian Totino Tedesco. Boom! Studios founder and CEO Ross Richie will executive produce with Boom! manager Peter A. Golden. Unthinkable will be produced at 20th Century Fox TV, via Gordon's Teakwood Lane Banner where Teakwood television head Hugh Fitzpatrick will join as an EP.

The news comes as the broadcast networks have struggled to uncover new dramas this development season, a commentary on how crowded the drama market --on basic cable, premium cable and digital players like Netflix-- has become. There are believed to be more than 150 dramas currently in production, leaving many writers locked up or too busy running shows to develop new ones.
Unthinkable joins a growing roster of Gordon projects, including Homeland, 24, TNT's Legends and FX's Tyrant. He's repped by WME and attorney Michael Gendler of Gendler & Kelly. Queen, who previously created Fox's Drive, is repped by UTA and attorney David Weber of Sloane Offer.
