Ruben Fleischer and Becky Hartman Edwards
Fox is poised to explore the family of a terrorist.
The network has picked up a script for Far From the Tree, a character-based thriller focusing on the family of a terrorist, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
From Switched at Birth executive producer Becky Hartman Edwards and Gangster Squad's Ruben Fleischer, the drama will center on the family members whose lives are turned upside down when their eldest son is involved in a large scale eco-terrorist attack. The show centers on the parents and siblings of the eco-terrorist as they deal with the FBI, media and community at large, all while unraveling the complex mystery as to how and why one of their own became so radicalized.
Hartman Edwards (Parenthood, Larry Sanders, Sex and the City, American Dreams) will pen the script and executive produce the drama alongside Fleischer for 20th Century Fox Television, where the latter is under an overall deal.
For Fleischer, this marks the Gangster Squad director's second sale this development season. He's also teaming with How to Make It In America creator Ian Edelman for Fox comedy F.O.M.O. (Fear of Missing Out). Repped by UTA and Sloane Offer, Fleischer is currently producing the feature Two Night Stand. His credits also include directing Zombieland and 30 Minutes or Less. Fleischer had four projects set up at Fox and ABC last year. Of those, only Fox's The List moved to pilot. (Fox passed on theMichael Pena drama in May.)
Hartman Edwards is repped by UTA and Del Shaw. Her credits also include October Road andLife on Mars. ABC Family's Switched at Birth, where she has been a writer and EP, will return for a third season in January.
