Broadchurch is reeling after the suicide of tabloid scapegoat Jack Marshall, but Detective Inspector Alec Hardy (David Tennant) is already eyeing his next suspect in the Danny Latimer murder case.
Hardy brings in Reverend Paul Coates (Arthur Darvill), a man he doesn't fully trust. In a sneak peek exclusive to The Hollywood Reporter from the Sept. 11 episode, Paul asks Hardy point blank in the interrogation room why he is so wary of him.
"Honestly, you worry me," Hardy says, rather matter-of-factly, relaying what he believed to be evidence that Paul was worming his way into the national conversation as the investigation continues to be a point of interest.

Paul, however, isn't letting Hardy have his way and the conversation turns to religion.
"You have no concept of faith," he tells Hardy. "I didn't muscle in. People turned to me! People who normally wouldn't think about religion. They asked me to speak; they asked me to listen. They needed me."
Paul takes Hardy to task moments later, as he explains why Hardy — whom he believes acts solely on suspicion and has absolutely no belief in faith — is in the wrong. "You can accuse me, you can take samples ... but you do not get to belittle my faith just because you have none," he says. "People need hope right now and they're certainly not getting it from you!"
