Singer Miguel arrested for DUI

Los Angeles (CNN) -- Grammy-winning R&B singer Miguel allegedly drove drunk early Thursday and was busted by a California Highway Patrol officer.

Miguel Jontel Pimentel, 27, was pulled over on a Los Angeles freeway for speeding and having illegally tinted windows at 2:15 a.m., according to CHP spokeswoman Karina Munoz.

The officer conducted sobriety tests on Miguel after smelling alcohol from inside the BMW X6, Munoz said.

Miguel was arrested on a drunken driving charge, booked at a Los Angeles jail and released on $5,000 bond at 5 a.m., she said.

A court hearing is set for September 9, she said.

The singer's representative did not immediately respond to CNN's request for comment.

Miguel won a Grammy for best R&B single for his hit "Adorn" in 2013.
