‘Scandal’ Books ‘Dead Like Me’ Star for Season 3 (Exclusive)

Olivia Pope has a new client.

Dead Like Me alum Cynthia Stevenson, who played George's mother Joy Lass on Showtime's dark comedy, is headed to Scandal, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Stevenson will play a new client in need of Pope & Associates' help in a pivotal guest-star turn. Other details about her character are being kept close to the vest. The episode is slated to air in mid-October.

Over the course of its run, Scandal has landed a slew of notable guest stars, including Eric Mabius, Lisa Edelstein, John Barrowman, Fringe's Jasika Nicole and Brenda Strong.

When Scandal picks back up, creator Shonda Rhimes revealed to THR that 22 minutes will have passed since the end of season two to the third-season opener.

"Olivia, with these two bombs of her name being leaked [in connection to President Fitz] and her dad showing up, has a lot to navigate," star Kerry Washington says. "You're going to learn a lot about Olivia's past; it's really shocking."

Stevenson, who has guest-starred on Rhimes dramas Grey's Anatomy, Off the Map and Private Practice, is repped by Talent Works and Pop Art Management. Other credits include Men in Trees, Surviving Suburbia and 2012's Judy Blume adaptation Tiger Eyes.

Scandal returns Oct. 3 at 10 p.m. on ABC.
