‘Lying Game’ Star Joins Sundance Drama Series (Exclusive)

Sundance Channel is adding one of the stars from The Lying Game to its ranks.

Actress Allie Gonino has joined the cast of The Red Road, the cabler's upcoming six-episode drama series (previously The Descendants).

Red Road is described as a hard-hitting drama that revolves around a weathered sheriff struggling to keep his family together while policing two clashing communities: the folks in the small town in which he grew up and those in the neighboring Ramapo Mountains. Sarah Condon (Bored to Death) will produce, with Contraband's Aaron Guzikowski on board to pen the script. Bridget Carpenter (Friday Night Lights, Parenthood) will executive produce and serve as showrunner.

Gonino, who starred on ABC Family's recently canceled The Lying Game for two seasons, will play Rachel, the eldest daughter of the as-yet-uncast local cop struggling to keep his family together. She has a Romeo and Juliet-type relationship with a 16-year-old Native American from the neighboring mountains.

STORY: 'Game of Thrones' Alum Jason Momoa to Star in Sundance Drama (Exclusive)

She joins a cast that includes Saving Private Ryan's Tom Sizemore as Jack, the drug dealer and father of ex-con Phillip Kopus. The latter will be played by Game of Thrones alum Jason Momoa.

In addition to Lying Game, where she played Laurel Mercer, Gonino's credits include Lie to Me, Unfabulous, Disney's Cory in the House and a recurring arc on ABC Family's 10 Things I Hate About You. She's repped by Paradigm, Industry Entertainment and Jackoway Tyerman.

Red Road marks Sundance's second original scripted series following Rectify, the latter of which will return for a second season in 2014.
