Kanye West sat down with Kris Jenner for Friday’s “Kris,” opening up about his new life as a father, his love for Kim Kardashian, and much more.
The rapper recalls first meeting his future baby mama when she was working as Brandy’s assistant, describing it as “definitely” love at first sight.
He later cast Kardashian as Princess Leia in a Star Wars sketch on his 2008 pilot for a failed puppet comedy show, telling Jenner he did so because Kardashian was his “dream girl.”
“I was in love with her before I ever got to talk to her,” explains West.
He jokes that there were times when he wasn’t with her and wanted to be so badly, “I was thinking of taking up sports.”
The rapper says he and Kardashian bring out the best in each other.
His life changed forever with the arrival of baby daughter North this summer (SEE FIRST PHOTO HERE).
West says it made him a “brand new person.”
“My only goal is to protect my daughter,” he tells Jenner.
North has brought West and Kardashian “closer… there’s someone more important to us than us for the first time.”
He says there’s “only one brand now, and it’s family… that’s the only one I care about.”
And even though he considers himself a “musical genius,” West jokes, “I can’t work the car seat,” explaining that he sometimes practices at 3 a.m. because he has nightmares about the paparazzi yelling at him as he struggles with the device.
On a more serious note, West blasts the paparazzi as “emotional bullies” who taunt him and are “only around you to make money off you.”
The rapper says that his idols include his father (a professional photographer whom West credits for giving him his “artist ability”), Walt Disney, and Steve Jobs, both of whom were able to “mix art and commerce.”
West and Jenner also address the constant rumors that they fight.
“We love each other a whole bunch,” says the momager, to which West adds, “I live in your house!”
The performer tells Jenner that he says he’s a Christian, that it’s important to him, and that he plans to give his daughter “Christian values.”
He explains that the “only thing I want to do in life is help people,” which is partly why he finds it “disturbing” that he’s portrayed as a monster in the press.
“The last thing that I would want to happen to my daughter is some crazy, drunk black guy in a leather shirt to come up and cut her off at an awards show,” West says, referring to his infamous interruption of Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.
West reveals, “I feel like I’m very, very blessed, and with that comes great responsibility.”
He’s thrilled about the “stability” that his new family represents, and how it allows him to “really create and do God’s work.”
As for President Obama’s recent suggestion that celebrities like he and Kardashian have warped the American Dream, West brushes it aside, saying he’s “happy the President mentions me so often.”
When Jenner asks West about what it’s been like for him to join the family, he replies, “It’s interesting… there’s noise happening all the time.”
But he says he misses it when he’s not there, and that all he wants when he’s out of town is to be back with “my family.”
