Tom Cruise made a surprise appearance over the weekend, giving an unannounced speech at the Joanne Baron/D.W. Brown Studio’s graduation ceremony in California.

The star spoke enthusiastically to the group of acting graduates, sharing tips for how to be successful in show business and reminiscing about his early days as an actor.
Cruise remembered his first film role in Taps fondly, recalling, “At night, I couldn’t sleep because I thought, ‘This is my dream.’”
The actor also made sure to note that his initial foray into movies wasn’t stumble-free, such as the time director Harold Becker became “so angry” when Cruise appeared on set with a shaved head.
But Cruise says he got through difficult moments because “the thing that I always felt about myself in life is that I’m making the decisions, for better or worse, right or wrong.”
He also advised the graduates to take advantage of every experience, noting that while shooting Taps, he thought, “If I never get a chance to make another movie I’m just going to learn as much as I can.”
