Terrence Howard Heads to Fox Event Series ‘Wayward Pines’

Terrence Howard is moving to Wayward Pines.

The Hustle & Flow Oscar nominee has joined the cast of Fox's event series Wayward Pines, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

STORY: The 'Bible' Effect and the Resurrection of TV Miniseries

From Chad Hodge (The Playboy Club) and M. Night Shyamalan, the 10-episode drama is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Blake Crouch and is described as a thriller in the vein of Twin Peaks. The project revolves around Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon), a Secret Service agent who arrives in the bucolic town of Wayward Pines, Idaho, on a mission to find two missing federal agents. But instead of answers, Ethan's investigation only turns up more questions. Each step closer to the truth takes Ethan further from the life he knew, from the husband and father he was, until he must face the terrifying reality that he may never get out of Wayward Pines alive.

Howard will play the series regular role of Sheriff Pope, the law enforcement go-to guy in the creepy town. He takes offense at a Secret Service agent showing up on his turf and telling him what to do. Ethan believes Pope is out of his mind but Pope thinks the same of Ethan.

The actor, whose credits also include Iron Man, August Rush and Crash, joins a cast that also includes Harry Potter's Toby Jones,  Melissa Leo and Carla Gugino.

The Playboy Club's Hodge penned the script, with Shyamalan, Hodge, Donald De Line and Ashwin Rajan on board to exec produce the FX Productions effort. Fox landed the project, based on a spec from Hodge, after a competitive bidding situation. Fox will bow the 10-episode drama in 2014.

Howard, who will net be seen in the upcoming features Prisoners, The Butler and The Best Man Holiday, is repped by CAA and Timaeus Group.
