The Mistresses actress has booked a role in Fox's event series Wayward Pines, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
From Chad Hodge (The Playboy Club) and M. Night Shyamalan, the 10-episode drama is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Blake Crouch and is described as a thriller in the vein of Twin Peaks. The project revolves around Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon), a Secret Service agent who arrives in the bucolic town of Wayward Pines, Idaho, on a mission to find two missing federal agents. But instead of answers, Ethan's investigation only provokes more questions. Each step closer to the truth takes Ethan further from the life he knew, from the husband and father he was, until he must face the terrifying reality that he may never get out of Wayward Pines alive.
STORY: The 'Bible' Effect and the Resurrection of TV Miniseries
Sossamon will play the series regular role of Theresa Burke, the wife of Dillon's Ethan. The character met Ethan when she was a trainee in the Secret Service. Theresa left the service to raise their son, Ben. Theresa is intelligent, self-sufficient and magnetic. She and Ethan have a robust, tight relationship that has withstood Ethan's flaws, but her patience is wearing thin.
Sossamon joins a cast that includes Terrence Howard, Harry Potter's Toby Jones, Melissa Leo and Carla Gugino.
Her recent credits include the feature The Jesuit as well as Knight's Tale, The Order, Rules of Attraction and HBO's How to Make It in America. She's repped by APA and Oren Segal at Radius Entertainment.
The Playboy Club's Hodge penned the script, with Shyamalan, Hodge, Donald De Line and Ashwin Rajan on board to executive produce the FX Productions effort. Fox landed the project, based on a spec from Hodge, after a competitive bidding situation. Fox will bow the 10-episode drama in 2014.
